So, I think enough time has passed now that I can talk about my weekend. This weekend started out with the best of intentions, George and I were headed up to Pinehurst, NC for his friend's wedding. We thought the drive was going to be 3 hours no problem, however MapQuest changed its mind on Thursday and decided that instead of 3 hours it was around 6. So we got in the car Friday night to drive up there, and we got a wonderful surprise, the GPS said it was only about a 5 hours drive! I think George's Garmon just went for the compromise between the other two map forms.
So we are all set and out of the city, stopped at Starbucks to fuel up on green tea and then we realize something awful. We have forgotten the cord to to play the Spotify over the radio. Basically a death sentence for driving through the rural Carolinas.
We finally get up to Pinehurst and go straight to the bar (and by straight to I mean we had to wait like 30 minutes for one of the 4 cabs in the entire city to come pick us up). Finally we get to a place that has adult beverages and I get to meet all of George's friends! This was really wonderful, I got to meet George's best friend Wes and his lovely girlfriend (aka my new girlfriend, Cassie) and the wheelchair guy, (which is a long story, maybe George will guest blog it one day), but it is one of my favorite stories of all time and i got to gush over meeting him.
So the following day we hung out by the pool drinking mimosas and making all sorts of yummy food that was mostly consumed by drunkards post-ceremony. Let me tell you a little something I found out about Pinehurst, NC, it is HOTTER, than Atlanta. I mean to tell you standing outside felt like crawling in an oven set for 350 and just hanging out there. But besides the heat, the ceremony and reception were beautiful. The food was delicious and the bride and groom were so happy, and their first dance was to the Luminears...Conor would have been so happy. After dances, falling (George), and copious amounts of wine and beer our drunk asses made it back on the shuttle with our best friend the shuttle driver and crawled in bed.
You would think the story to the weekend would be over, there were some good parts and some not so good parts, but really this was just the beginning. Everything was the picture of perfection until the way home.
The long journey home:
Leaving Pinehurst was great, we got a little brunch, stopped at a farmers market to get some peaches, corn, and (the most beautiful) tomatoes then finally got on the road. We were around Charlotte when George mentioned that something was a little funny with his car. (Mind you it was 106 outside), as soon as he said that the tiniest bit of smoke started coming out of the hood of the car, The Silver Bullet was overheating. Then George boy scouted me and told me that the way you help the engine block cool down is to blast the heat in the car and roll the windows down, which we did, on and off between stopping for the next hour or so. Until we finally gave up and decided that we needed to let the car cool down for more than just 20 minuets at a time. By this point we were covered in sweat, the right side of my body was burned from the sun shining through the open window, and we were both just a little delirious, but all in all not in terribly bad spirits. (Probably because we got Bojangles earlier). We decided to call roadside assistance and they hooked us up with a tow truck driver, but when we finally confirmed our location and everything, the tow truck had overheated and broken down on the highway. This was the last straw, so we found the closest hotel, the Holiday Inn Express- Spartanburg North. Not a bad little hotel, so we watched some lifetime and hung out in there while the car got some TLC for the night. While relaxing my partner in crime and soon to be business, Bet, called me, to which i got excited and jumped off the bed to charge my phone so i could talk to her, but i underestimated how high the bed was and i tumbled to the floor, spraining my ankle in the process. So then we decided to go get dinner and maybe some wine, until we found out Spartanburg doesn't sell alcohol on Sundays...So there was nothing left to do but eat too much, watch some HBO and fall asleep, which is exactly what we did. The next morning, the car was working and we got out of there and George got me to work right on time.
So....that was fun...
